Marathon Challenge for Leukaemia Charity

Andy Godden London Marathon 2

Andy Godden, Chief Financial Officer, joined more than 50,000 people taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday 21st April 2024. The popular annual event is in its 43rd consecutive year and received more than 500,000 applications to participate this year, rumoured to be the most ever.

In the summer of 2023, Andy decided to take on the 42.195 kilometres / 26.219 mile challenge, supporting the Leukaemia Care charity in memory of a cousin who had passed away from the disease.

Leukaemia Care is a national charity dedicated to ensuring that the 34,000 people affected by blood cancer every year receive the right information and support, from diagnosis through subsequent treatment and beyond.

He commented “I have had a long held ambition to run a marathon and only in the past few months have I decided to finally do something about it. And at the same time as wanting to fulfil this goal, I decided to make it more than just a personal endeavour by running in Claire’s memory to raise money for Leukaemia Care.

“Whilst I have been an on-and-off runner for many years, taking on a marathon is a new challenge. I [ran] the Cardiff Half marathon in October as a stepping stone to taking on London… your support, be it a donation or well wishes, is massively appreciated!”

So far, Andy has raised more than £3,000 for the charity, an incredible 171% of his original fundraising target. Please visit his JustGiving page to show your support and make a donation if you can: Andy Godden is fundraising for Leukaemia Care.

Managing a consistent 8 minutes per mile before ‘hitting the wall” around the 35 kilometre mark, Andy finished 11,800th overall with an impressive time of 03:35:28, claiming the coveted London Marathon finisher’s medal and leaving with some very heavy legs.

From everyone at BladeRoom, BRG Technologies and ModuleCo, well done Andy.
